Default How to obtain a good testimony

by Pastor Paul S. Ogedemgbe

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. Heb 11:1-2

There are some things in the spirit realm that we cannot see or tap into by our five senses; only by faith can we see these things. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:39 that, “And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise.” The Bible says of all the heroes of faith, “they all obtained a good testimony”
The word “Testimony” is from the Greek word “Martureo”, from which we get the word ‘Witness’.

“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.
There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.
You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.
He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.

But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. John 5:31-37

‘Witness’ is a recommendation, an approval of God. Witness validates, authenticates and empowers us in the midst of the earth. The NIV translation of John 5: 36 reads,
“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
This automatically introduces us to the fact that a testimony can have weight and that the approval of God has levels or degrees.

In John 5: 36 we see Jesus saying that the weight of His testimony is shown by the work that the Father had given to Him to finish. That was how He had greater level of authority, greater work and impact than what John the Baptist had. He had a greater level of ability to bring forth things into the earth. It was a fact that He worked under a higher degree of recommendation and approval of God, in the earth, than John the Baptist.
We as the end time believers who will finish the work for God need this greater witness from God and it is through our faith that we can gain this approval.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11:8
Faith operates in the realm of ‘not knowing’. Abraham’s faith was dealing with a life that was never manifested here on earth.

I object to the statement in quote, because out of several promises of God to Abraham, just about one was not fulfilled in his lifetime; and that was the inheriting of Canaan by his descendants.

We know what God wants to do, albeit in our spirit because Holy Spirit is resident in us. So, we believe because we know that His promises are yeah and amen!
