Default Adeboye sacks Pastor Ighodalo for remarrying

The decision of the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye directing the pastor of the Christ Church Parish of the RCCG, in Gbagada, a suburb of Lagos to resign following his remarriage would predictably set off a shockwave in Nigeria’s Pentecostal christendom.

According to a report by P.M.News, Pastor Ighodalo, widely believed to be one of the ‘pastoral sons’ of Pastor Adeboye, a mild-mannered Christian leader generally known among members of RCCG as ‘Daddy’ was asked to step down from his position for marrying a second time while his former spouse is still alive.

Before he became born again, Ighodalo had married his first wife, Lucy-Ann Summer, who is a Chartered Accountant like himself. The marriage was contracted overseas and did not produce a child.

After he became born-again and relocated to Nigeria, his former wife was said to have refused to join him. The union later broke down on grounds of irreconcilable differences.

For ten years, Ighodalo was said to have lived in marital ‘limbo’ until he met and fell in love with the former Miss Lux, Ibidunni Ajayi, who was a youth corpsmember at the time. They courted for 18 months and got married in Feb 2007.

His decision to remarry is believed to have emboldened some pastors of RCCG to divorce their wives and remarry. This, P.M.News reported, had infuriated Pastor Adeboye thereby setting the stage for the thunder strike that struck Ighodalo and ended his pastoral position in RCCG.

With this development, biblical scholars of the New Testament would in the next few days engage strenuous arguments about key passages of the Holy Bible pertaining to marriage.

It would be recalled that a number of notable Pentecostal pastors like Pastor Chris Okotie had re-married after several years of enforced bachelorhood.

A source told P.M.News that Ighodalo had announced to his congregation that he would quit the church, reportedly because he could no longer cope with the politics being played in the church.

However, Ighodalo has categorically denied leaving the church and also declined commenting on the circumstances surrounding his present predicament.
